Second Harvest Food Drive Campaign @UCSC
with UCSC's University Interfaith Council UIC
and ISI Santa Cruz
Dear ISI friends --
I have been organizing ISI friendship program here in Santa Cruz for 23 years, collaborating with UCSC Interfaith Council most of that time.
This year I am President of the Interfaith Council. I ask all ISI friends to join me in supporting the annual UCSC campus-wide campaign to raise money for Second Harvest Food bank. Below is a letter from our UIC coordinator for the food drive.
Second Harvest Food Bank, the main organization giving food in an economically efficient way to all the hungry people in Santa Cruz County.
I ask all ISI members to give $10 to Second Harvest ($1= 4 meals! ) as part of ISI's campaign. I can give you a donation envelope at ISI events. To help us. I ask each ISI member to donate at least $10, using the Second Harvest donation envelopes.
You can put cash or check in the envelope and drop it in any campus post box. Please mark on the outside of the envelope that it is from ISI / UIC so we get credit for your donation. Get the envelopes from me at ISI events, or from any UCSC office.
Not only will participating in the campaign help many poor and hungry people in Santa Cruz, our collaboration with UCSC in this also helps our ISI and UIC groups to become more known on campus, especially with the campus administration, from the Chancellor on down, as we join with them on this very worthy project.
Working together we can do great things!!!
Thank you, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

From Sarah O'Brien,
UIC Coordinator for Second Harvest Food Drive
Hi all,
I'm Sarah O'Brien, the staff for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and I'm heading up the UIC's participation in the campus-wide food drive that supports the Second Harvest Food Bank's efforts to feed hungry families in Santa Cruz County.
InterVarsity students just kicked off our competition between our seven bible studies to raise money, donate cans, and donate dining hall meals. Last year we raised $420 and had a lot of fun - the winning bible study got a pizza party!
That's just to give you a sense of how easy it is to raise some money - and your money goes a long way with Second Harvest! One dollar provides 4 meals with their buying power, and 64% of their donations are produce - that's pretty awesome!
So please, consider sharing about Second Harvest with your group. Here are two videos that explain what Second Harvest does. https://www.youtube.com/user/Secondharvestfood

I've encouraged my students to consider what they spend on food and maybe give up their lattes or whatever for a week, and donate that money.
My goal is for us as the UIC to raise $1000 by the end of the quarter. That's 4,000 meals! At our UIC meeting in December, I would love to hear how groups are doing with this! (InterVarsity will hopefully contribute half of that!)
There are money envelopes and brown paper bags that I can give you - just reply to this email to find a time to get them from me - but really, all you need is a jar of your own to collect money in and get started!
Let me know if you have any questions!
